The book is written by Alexander Rooksmoor, author of a range of popular ‘what if?’ history books based on his twenty years’ experience in researching and teaching history. In ‘Other Exits’ among a range of topics he considers how victory by King Richard III could have meant no Tudor dynasty for England. He looks at the differences for the country if Henry VIII’s wives had produced male heirs or if Henry himself had been killed in a jousting accident. The book considers a range of scenarios for Elizabeth I including her never becoming queen, becoming mother to children who survived to adulthood and what would have happened if she had been assassinated. The book looks at victory for the Spanish Armada in 1588; for Charles I in the English Civil War and the Duke of Monmouth in opposing James II. There is also discussion of whether Britain’s brief republic under Oliver Cromwell could have been put on to a stronger basis.
