‘Braucher’s Value’ is set in the city of Munich and other areas of Bavaria and Austria in 1923, a period of violence and political upheaval. With guns easily available and the currency spiralling out of control, it is a time in which people kill for many reasons. In this volume Kommissar Otto Braucher seeks to solve cases of murder increasingly caused by political tensions and an economy seriously spiralling out of control. ‘Braucher’s Value’ is an anthology of six cases handled by Kommissar Otto Braucher as he mixes with different elements of inter-war Bavarian society from wealthy families, through lawyers, teachers and companions, veterans, farmers to those living on the edge of society.

With his own insight, hard work and an increasingly reliable squad, Braucher struggles to find the perpetrators and bring them to justice at risk to his own life, not least to prevent further murders. ‘Braucher’s Value’ will appeal to anyone who enjoys detective stories with developed, credible characters and is interested in seeing the impact on crime of the circumstances of a particular period of history when life was cheap and the police were only one of a forces playing a role in the increasingly unstable German society. The anthology's realism stems from Alexander Rooksmoor's knowledge around 20th century German history. This allows him to conjure up the time and the places featured in the stories, to give them a genuine and realistic setting.

Please Note: This book is an anthology. While they have all been revised for this book, five stories it contains were previously available as the following separate books: ‘Braucher and the Item’, ‘Braucher and the League’, ‘Braucher and the Ransom’, ‘Braucher and the Victim’, and ‘Braucher and the Trap’. The final story has been written entirely new for this anthology.
