About
The rich and powerful of Cepford Magna are seeking to assert their authority and divide society, steps that widow, Millennial ‘Millie’ Launder, is unwilling to accept. The plan is for herself and her brother to enter politics but this needs money. Running a laundry business and a glass works can only provide so much. There is, however, one dangerous option that Millie is willing to take. Each Eighth of the year, people are drawn to enter the Necropolis, a ruined town of once grand, now flooded buildings that has become a duelling arena. A victor inherits the possessions of any they kill. Such wealth could back Millie’s campaign to rise to the top of the town’s political system and she has spent a year training to enter. Of course, she just has to survive three sunrises, locked in ruins filled with some of the country’s most efficient killers.
‘The Necropolitan’ is set in a fantasy world, but rather than focusing on epic journeys across continents, it is about the struggles one woman has in her home town, both outside and within the duelling arena. She faces arrogance and violence and the tasks needed to remain alive in sodden, crumbling ruins. Cepford Magna is part of a society in decay but one facing many challenges that we see in our world. Will Millie end up face down, dead in a stagnant pool in the middle of the Necropolis, or emerge to achieve her goals? What will she have to do in order to win through and become the Necropolitan?
