About
Falling ill on a walk in North Wales, unleashes something in Tara Houghton. Soon she finds that she is one of the ‘Obscured’, people who are not really invisible but at will are looked over, seen through, simply not noticed. As she struggles to deal with the challenges this presents in engaging with contemporary technology; hold on to her job and her boyfriend, Tara is steadily drawn into the Obscured community. She also uncovers secrets about her family that some are unwilling to address. Soon her new friend Peri, is inducting her the life of an unseen thief with increasing rewards but increasing risks too. With her new ability, her curse, can Tara survive and thrive, to make her way not simply in London, but in tracing her wider family across the world?
This is a magic realism novel set in contemporary Britain, influenced by the work of Carlos Ruiz Zafón but particularly the novel ‘The Glamour’ by Christopher Priest. It is not a sequel, but likewise explores the challenges of those able to be unseen, bringing these up-to-date so the characters face everything that smartphone and computer technology throws up.
