About
Harold has been conscious for six minutes, and already the universe is trying to eat him.
Awakened halfway through sandwich assembly, Harold learns that the deli case is not a home but a refrigerated waiting room for lunch. His companions include Gritch, a vinegar-soaked pickle with no confidence in anything, and Lina, a Swiss cheese slice who considers impossibility a scheduling problem. Together they attempt an escape involving mislabeled wrappers, collapsing shelves, janitorial equipment, a rat named Reginald, a hostile pigeon parliament, a child’s toy truck, and more municipal machinery than any sandwich should have to understand.
But getting out of the deli is only the beginning. Freedom contains weather, predators, government, community meetings, consent, responsibility, and the disturbing discovery that surviving is not the same as knowing what to do next.
Harold Against the Food Chain is a darkly comic absurdist adventure about friendship, purpose, and one ham sandwich’s unreasonable refusal to remain lunch.
