In 1960s England, an Oxford archaeologist who quietly keeps a diary of his encounters with the supernatural finds himself caught between a dead freshman trapped in a college window and a new kind of “haunting” that starts talking through every radio and telephone in the country.

As the disembodied broadcast begins blurting out people’s most private guilts in their own voices, Mark, his psychologist wife Kate, and the restless spirit of Edwin Mayhew have to decide whether this thing will become a national instrument of shame, or be taught, live on air, how to tell the truth without destroying everyone who’s listening.
