"Slow down," the judge told her, and then he hit her with 200 hours of community service. Doctor Jane Roth would now be forced to spend time at the free clinic across town, helping people too poor to help themselves. She had no way to know it at the time, but time spent at that clinic would change her life forever.

Jane has entered a critical time in her life but she does not yet know it and new surroundings, combined with a chance meeting of a handsome patient, and finally the gentle nudging of her head nurse, Alice, sends Jane and her husband, Vincent, skidding off the road and into the weeds.

To make matters worse, Evan, a longtime family friend, visits Jane at the clinic to take advantage of the free services, and Jane makes an interesting discovery about him too.
