About
The conclusion to the Lovers and Other Strangers Series
Mike Hartigan, Fire Captain, was a hero. Even when he was beat from working a double and felt lucky to go home to a bowl of cold cereal and a hot shower. Then he remembered he was out of milk which put him in the right place to ‘save' one Eileen McCormick.
Eileen was not a woman who needed saving, usually. She'd single-handedly raised twin boys on her own. After that, everything else was easy. Except with her boys finally in great relationships the days had devolved into working and sleeping. Maybe that is why she said she'd make Brady the cake he needed, it wasn't like it was 4 dozen cupcakes for the next day. It should have been a simple trip to the grocery store until her shopping cart gets wedged in a snowbank and the hot guy who helped her leaves his groceries in her cart.
So she makes him a casserole to say thank you, and then he wants her to eat it with him and... You've heard that story about what happens if you give a mouse a cookie... Same is true for Firemen and food. As they become friends, Mike wants more, but all Eileen can think about is their 12 year age-gap. When she is in a horrible accident, Mike steps up to save her, again. In sickness and health from this day forward...
