Sense and Sensibility, Jane Austen's first published novel, explores the lives of the Dashwood sisters, Elinor and Marianne, after the death of their father. Left in reduced circumstances, they move to a country estate of a distant relative. There, they experience romantic engagements with Edward Ferrars, the dashing yet unreliable Mr. Willoughby, and the honorable Colonel Brandon. Through these relationships, they seek and ultimately find fulfillment of their romantic desires.
