Steps to Love Books in Order
“For God’s sake, Cassie!” Zach sounds more frustrated than ever. “Have you any idea how hot you look since your makeover? All the guys I hang out with keep wanting to know if they can ask you out. It’s been driving me crazy.”
“I’m sorry you’re mad that your friends want to get to know me better,” I say stiffly.
“Not that sort of crazy.” He pauses. “Cassie, when Danny nearly kissed you the other night, I wanted to punch him. The reason I dragged you home was because I couldn’t bear the thought of another guy making out with you.”
There’s an unbearable silence as the air thickens with sexual tension. He wants me. And I want him.
“I shouldn’t have kissed you,” he says at last.
“Why not?”
The gap’s closing between us. My whole body is trembling.
“Because now I can’t stop thinking about it.” His voice is quiet. Softer than it’s been before. “About you. About how much I want to hold you and kiss you – and do other stuff with you as well. And that’s what’s driving me crazy.”
My heart’s pounding. I’m struggling to make sense of what I’ve just heard.
“Are you saying you want to date me?” I say at last.
“I can’t date you.” His voice is flat. Emotionless. “You’re my sister.”
Since 16-year-old Cassie Wilkinson’s mom died six years ago, it’s just been her and her dad – but now he’s started dating and Cassie’s struggling to readjust.
Zach Goldstein (17) is the resident bad boy at Cassie’s high school. Furious with his mom for divorcing his dad, he’s angrier still when she and Cassie’s dad announce they’re getting married. He doesn’t want another man moving into the house and he certainly doesn’t want Cassie living there – but he can’t deny the physical attraction between him and his new stepsister.
Cassie feels it too, but she knows Zach’s emotionally damaged. Will he continue to push her away, or will they be able to confess their feelings for each other?
Steps Together is the first book in an ‘opposites attract’, ‘frenemies to lovers’ YA romance series.
