As in every great story, the protagonist is a villain. Arngrim Halftroll forced the dwarves to make him a sword that would always bring victory, but the dwarves put a curse on it, that it would be the death of him and all his kin. Its first victim was his own father.

Eyfura, the Valkyrie princess, fell in love with Hjalmar. When Arngrim came looking to make her his bride, she enlisted Hjalmar to fight a duel in her defense.
