David Mitchell was born in 1969 and raised in Worcestershire. He graduated from Kent University and taught English in Japan. His debut novel, 'Ghostwritten', published in 1999, earned him the Mail on Sunday John Llewellyn Rhys Prize and was shortlisted for the Guardian First Book Award. His subsequent works include 'number9dream', shortlisted for the Booker Prize, and 'Cloud Atlas', which was shortlisted for the Man Booker Prize and adapted into a film in 2012. Mitchell's other notable works are 'Black Swan Green', 'The Thousand Autumns of Jacob de Zoet', and 'The Bone Clocks', all longlisted for the Man Booker Prize with 'The Bone Clocks' winning the World Fantasy Best Novel Award. He also co-translated Naoki Higashida's 'The Reason I Jump', which became a bestseller. His seventh novel is 'Slade House'.
