Lois Lowry is a versatile and inventive writer born in Hawaii and raised across New York, Pennsylvania, and Japan. She studied at Brown University before turning to writing. Lowry has authored over forty young adult books, including the popular Anastasia Krupnik series and has received multiple accolades such as two Newbery Medals for her novels NUMBER THE STARS and THE GIVER. Her debut novel, A SUMMER TO DIE, won the International Reading Association's Children's Book Award. THE GIVER has been adapted into an opera, and several of her books have made it to film and stage. Her latest work, ON THE HORIZON, explores memories from Pearl Harbor, Hiroshima, and post-war Japan. Lowry divides her time between Maine and Florida, where she also enjoys life as a mother and grandmother.
