I grew up in the American West and never left. There’s so much that draws me and keeps me here: big sky and lemon-yellow prairies, red rock canyons, deep river gorges, craggy peaks, and the thundering ocean. And the people—tough and practical, tied to the land, dreamers and schemers.
The Wild Willed Women of the West books are both an ode to the women of the West and a promise kept to my mother, who always said, “There’s not enough humor in the world.” I happen to agree. That’s why Pip and Ruby, the book’s mischief-making heroines, have a knack for concocting well-thought-out yet disastrously wrong decisions.
