If this is really the author’s debut, then I’m convinced she’s hiding a secret stack of published works somewhere, because this story reads far too polished, immersive, and addictive to be a first. Again not sure if she has previous published works.
The writing is sharp yet lyrical, a dagger kissed by moonlight and the worldbuilding feels like Ravenloft collided with Songbird and The Wings of Night, with just enough chaotic D&D campaign energy that I half expected someone to shout, “Roll for initiative!”
This is dark romantasy through and through— where every character feels morally gray enough to make you question who the real villain is. The male lead? Broody, dangerous, and frustratingly magnetic. The female lead? Fierce, fearless, and impossible not to root for. Even the side characters are vivid and layered enough to make you grieve, laugh, and scheme alongside them.
There are a few minor grammatical hiccups that another editing pass could smooth over, but they never once pulled me out of the story. And yes, the romance and spice are intentional, decadent, and perfectly in step with the shadows of this world.
Final verdict? If you like your fantasy sharp, seductive, and just a little dangerous, this one is worth diving into immediately and I highly recommend you do so! I’ll be waiting— very impatiently for book two.
