Briar West

“All the Quiet Things” is a touching slow-burn romance that I believe many readers will find relatable. The story unfolds with humor, warmth, and genuine emotion, making it easy to connect with the characters’ journeys and struggles. The author’s heartfelt writing shines through, blending moments of laughter with sincere reflections on love, growth, and vulnerability. It’s the kind of story that lingers long after the final page—authentic, funny, and deeply human.

Amazing book, loved how engaging it was. Its really full of heart, a little bit of humor, and a lot of real-life moments that make you stop and think. The people in it feel real, like your friends or someone you’d meet at school. They mess up, laugh, cry, and try to figure things out just like everyone else. The book moves slowly, but in a good way, building up all the feels until you’re totally hooked. It talks about love, growing up, and being brave enough to show who you really are. It’s sweet, funny, and totally worth reading.

From the very first page, I was struck by the prose—it’s lyrical without being overdone, painting New Orleans in a way that made me feel like I was walking its streets right alongside the characters. The atmosphere is so vivid and sensory that the city itself feels like a living, breathing part of the story.

The characters are layered and human, carrying both flaws and tenderness that made me root for them. Just when I thought I knew where the story was headed, the ending caught me off guard in the best possible way—powerful, heartbreaking, and exactly what the book needed.

And the author’s note at the end? That was the final touch that stayed with me. It felt deeply personal and moving, reminding me why stories like this matter.

All the Quiet Things is one of those novels that leaves you quiet for a moment after closing the book, simply sitting with all the feelings it stirred up. Five stars, and then some.

ALL THE QUIET THINGS by Briar West is a novel about Del, a teacher from New Orleans who falls for one of her students’ uncles. The story follows their relationship from a random encounter in a bookstore to coffee-shop dates to steamy bedroom sex, and finally to adopting a fur baby. For 98 percent of the book, West's depiction of the relationship feels authentic. Del struggles to believe and trust that someone could truly love her, and she pushes herself to trust and open up. I was all in. This is why the final chapter threw me. It didn’t seem to fit the rest of the novel and felt forced. Regardless, I really enjoyed this steamy romance. I appreciated the author’s poetic writing and her attention to sensory details, especially scent. I liked the way she got inside Del’s head and conveyed emotions. ALL THE QUIET THINGS is definitely worth a read!
